Kevin-
Well, to answer your first question about what fields are contained
within a specific schema, you can grep through them if you have a
specific attribute in mind, or look at 'em with VI. If you're wanting a
more human readable means, look for a "Common Attributes and Objects"
table, like the one contained in Appendix C of the O'reilly LDAP book.
(If you're doing any LDAP stuff, you should have that book in your
arsenal.) As far as your second question, don't let your tools dictate
your directory. You really should have the structure defined before
touch the keyboard. I know I've heard of a few decent LDAP tools, just
google for 'em. I think Joshua mentioned one to me once, but I'll have
to ask him next time I see him because I can't remember what it was :)
Once you know your structure, seek the tools. If they don't exist,
script the existing ones. That's all I did with the LDAP tools I wrote:

I needed to add stuff into LDAP and add users in Samba. Nothing I found
did it the way I needed it to so I just cobbled together my own. You're
pretty good in Java as I recall, so I'm sure this is no problem for you.

Tobias
