It's hard to become a threat to something that's never existed. The only privacy we've ever enjoyed is of the "security through obscurity" type, and we all know how robust a paradigm that is.
It's simply a fact that modern life creates an audit log. It's largely involuntary, mostly unavoidable, and not necessarily a bad thing.
Compared to what other players have been doing for decades, giving Google the power to read my mailing lists hardly even registers. None of the lists I'm on are private in any meaningful way anyhow.
