Hey all!

I didn't feel like I got a chance to be part of the Friday-fun-threads. I wanted to chime in really quick and bring up a few things that came to mind after finally reading through the list threads.

1. The website is up and kicking. Instiki had some problems for a while and Ben tried to fix it and it just wasn't coming back to life in a good way. I really feel like I should have spent more time to help work on that problem and I found myself logging via SSH to the account restarting it more than I would have liked. Ben did so as well...it just wasn't staying up.

Resolution:
The static site is doing just fine and we have Apache + FCGI available on that server. We also have Lighttpd on the server. So, when the new site is ready, we can just flip it on. :-)

2. People have mentioned having access to the server. Currently, Ben and John have SSH access to the system. Subversion will be ready by mid-week so that they can John and Lennon can prep for the Hackfest. This will allow anyone who shows up to help out get a user account for svn+http. I'll let everyone them handle that user/group accounts. I can facilitate the server space, installation, and answer questions about which port to connect to for PostgreSQL and all that other fun stuff. :-) I have no intentions or desire of being the all-mighty controller of the pdxruby site. (I have enough responsibility at the moment)

3. Uptime. If you see an outage, my phone number is on the planet argon web site. ;-)

4. New List. Running on Mailman... and I will provide backups of it to the pdxruby user account. If it ever needs to move to another server, it shouldn't be a big deal.

5. IRC. We have a bot in there now... and it's Ruby-powered! When you get in IRC type:
pdxrbot: help (or ?help )

6. IRC. There are about 5-7 people in there now on a semi-regular basis... its still low traffic... but if you all come and join, that might change. I think that the IRC channel is a good way to get to know people in the group... as we tend to be a bit abrupt via email sometims. ;-)

7. I dunno... I just felt like boring you all with some random thoughts and wanted to let you all know that I think Ruby is cool and hope that you do too!

Thanks to John and Lennon for getting new stuff up and starting to organize the hackfest. I look forward to seeing what comes of that.

Cheers,

Robby
