Aaron, Have you looked at the current PDX.rb dev website codebase? Many of the major features, including event management, iCalendar output, and aggregation of member RSS feeds, are already working in the current trunk version, and adapting them for the Shift calendar really shouldn't be hard.
It would be cool to look at the code from the perspective of a slightly different set of community needs, as well, to hopefully identify what we can package up as components for re-use in other Rails projects.
