I actually contacted Douglas Repetto last fall about a Portland Dorkbot group, and he said no one has organized one, but I'd be welcome to do so.  I've been meaning to poke around and see if there's interest for a while now.  When I lived in Seattle, I was in contact with a lot of people working on robotics, rocketry, etc. but I haven't run into so much of that activity here.

Well, since Dane already broached the subject of starting new groups on this list, I figured I'd follow suit... ;~)

I know there are at least a handful of members of this community who are interested in using technology for *weird* things, whether that be building little microcontroller based blinkenlights, building crazy robots or experimenting with unusual electronic musical instruments. While I haven't been doing much in those areas lately, I'm very interested in those things and would like to find like-minded people to interact with. There are already other groups with similar interests around the world. Dorkbot is one example ( http://dorkbot.org/), but I'm sure there are others. However, I'm not aware of any groups in the Portland area. Please let me know if you know of any.

I know there are other communities that I should contact to find people who are interested in this, but I figured I'd start here since I already know many of you. If you're interested, let me know. I'll see about getting us a mailing list set up. I've already contact the dorkbot people about maybe using their resources for this.

Thanks and I really hope you guys don't view this as an abuse of the pdx.rb list.

Thomas
