I'm moving on to a permanent job at Mentor Graphics in Wilsonville so
there's an opening in the group I'm working in. Just thought I'd
post something about the opening in case anyone is interested:

It's a pretty nice gig doing interesting and useful stuff. Useful in
that they're developing a medical device that could help a lot of
folks. Interesting (especially for people on this list) in that while
the main development language is C++, Ruby plays an integral role: a
lot of the C++ is actually generated from XML descriptions using Ruby.
And Ruby has also become entrenched on the QA/Testing side as well:
unit tests & smoke tests are all in Ruby right now and the QA group
is writing (at the suggestion of the development group) stuff in Ruby.
Also interesting in that it invovles XMLRPC and lots of concurrency.

Oh, and another nice thing is that the box being developed runs Gentoo
Linux and thus all development is in Linux (the only reason I have a
Windows box on my desk for is for reading/sending email). The
downside is that the job is a contract job with a one-year duration
(my year was going to be up in early April).

Location: westside, near OGI at the Beaverton/Hillsboro border and in
walking distance from a MAX stop.
Hours: extremely flexible (I often don't get in until 10AM or after
and nobody has a problem with that).

If you're interested and if you know C++ pretty well (I'm assuming you
know Ruby if you're on this list ;-) I should also mention that the
C++ is made less icky by heavy use of the boost libraries.

If you're interested send me your resume and I'll pass it along. I
would have stayed around for the next six months of the contract, but
it was'nt clear if there would be any permanent opportunities at the
end; that and I wanted to get back into EDA.

Phil
