For anyone who hasn't updated their extension to PHP 7 already, PECL
sync is worth looking at solely for the fact that the same code base
compiles cleanly for two major releases of PHP.
From what I have observed, a lot of devs tend to move away from PHP 5
altogether (nothing necessarily wrong with that) or they branched their
code and are attempting the impossible task of maintaining multiple code
bases. With a little bit of macro and typedef magic, it is possible to
enable transparent compilation.
Just a thought/option to consider.
