Good message from Phil Dutton.
There have been some really unfortunate mis-steps in nonproductive directions (in my opinion) that seem guided by internal computer science/programming concepts, within Altium, in favor of schematic capture and PCB layout features that actual users need. The file system/database snafu a few years ago is one example (in my opinion). Making global editing more difficult is another, as shown by the responses we’re seeing.
A simple, intuitive user interface comes first, before the ability to handle complex features. Then, when adding the complex features, don’t muck up the simple user interface.
Actually Altium has a very valuable resource in these list servers—access to knowledgeable users who for the most part are committed to the product and are eager to help others use it.
There must be a way that Altium could collect suggestions in an organized way to help shape development priorities. Top 10 suggested features. Top 10 gripes on features that don’t work properly.

There is a valuable lesson amongst this for the Altium lurkers. This sort of flexibility and ease of use has always been Protel's big advantage for board designers like me. (and I've used that other package too..) Don't go down the path of making the tool overly complex and cumbersome to use. I don't want to waste time fighting with the application. Quick global edits need to be quick and easy when needed and I need to be able to highlight nets in the net colour, properly, as in 99Se. I'm not personally interested in FPGA design, but need to be able to bring in pin assignment into library symbols from 3rd party software (there is a script that helps do this) a better Autorouter would be nice, but the ability to export to Specctra or Electraroute suits me fine.
