Dale,
I can't locate exactly how I solved this put did find my starting point
(pasted below) As I recal the gerber header needed to have some lines
deleted and the Protel output perimeters had to be adjusted. I'm less
certain on the second point. But I was able to bring the gerbers into
Protel! I suggest the key is compare a Protel output gerber with a
camtastic output gerber

Abdulrahman Lomax,
No, I didn't misunderstand your intention. I've looked into this and
Protel gerber input is not compatible with Camtastic gerber output (in
any available format). Protel's position, as stated in the knowledge
base item 2215 is that "The Protel importer for Gerber files serves the
purpose for viewing Gerbers created by Protel only. Protel was not
designed to be a Gerber viewer such as CAMtastic created by third party
software." They, as you did in the earlier posting, missed the point
that inputting gerber to Protel is a valuable method of migrating
designs to the Protel environment.

OK, I've been screwing around with editing gerber files and I'm getting
closer.

The top of the Camtastic generated gerber file looked like this:

G04 CAM Products 2000 RS274-X Output*
G04 Serial Number: 0000-00-00000*
G04 File Name:C:\design\spectral\Rcc00340\Rcc003\CONVERT.GBL *
%FSLAX34Y34*%
%MOIN*%
%SFA1B1*%
...

while the top of one of my Protel generated gerber files looked like this:

%FSLAX24Y24*%
%MOIN*%
G70*
G01*
G75*
%ADD10R,0.0160X0.0500*%

I removed the first 3 lines that start with G04 and Protel accepted the file! Some parts are missing...(I really don't know why) but I'm getting closer.

Any assistance to get a clean, accurate gerber load would still be useful!

Protel only loads the drawing part of the Gerber file, it does NOT load the
apertures. (At least, P99 didn't.) You need to read the apertures, and create
an aperture list manually in Protel before doing the Gerber import. This should
make most normal Gerber flashes and draws work directly. There are some
special apertures, such as rotated octagons, any hexagons, and nested white and
black fills that may not come through. But, common pads that Protel knows about,
and draws should work.
