Could this be a new mode in 2004 that is enabled by some flag which shows which pins are the various electrical types?

I'm not sure, but the white may be coming from the S being on several layers
when transparent layers is enabled.

OK, I found it I guess.
I selected a pad, clicked "find similar objects" and globally changed the
type from "Source" to "Load"
Which got rid of the "S"'s sitting on the pads. I guess I should count my
blessings that I don't have spurious 'L's all over the place now.
What the hell is going on?

Here's a nasty development.
I just opened up (in 2004) a fairly complex part that I built in DXP and Now
every pad has a big, bold, white letter "S" superimposed on top of it both in
the PCBlib and the PCBDoc.
It doesn't show up on printout or Gerber plots, only on the screen display.
White is not even a valid color from my layer Color map.

Any ideas?

TIA
