It seems to me this problem was covered several years back, but I'm
afraid my memory is like a proverbial seive. I remember the discussion
but none of the meat. I'd suggest that you run a search at techserv to
see if it's archived. 

I do also remember that I experienced a similar problem, and though the
application ran, it was intolerably slow on file operations, including
file loads...

At the time (circa 2001) one of the vets here (though perhaps one of the
now defunct vets) suggested to me that it had something to do with a
damaged resource file, either one of the ini or rcs files had been
truncated somehow. That's what it turned out to be, but I can't remember
which file...
