I don't have PROTEL working under wine. However, I am satisfied with SUSE 9.2 64 bit 1.0g memory running VMWARE 5.0 hosting win2k, and being able to run Altera QUARTUS and PROTEL. Like you, all my code development is under Linux.
I assign 512Mb to the win2k partition. 1.0gb was adequate under mandrake 10.0, since I "upgraded" to SUSE 9.2 64 bit, I find that I am swapping without that much else open.
