Yes, I have both installed & when I do open 99SE to view a legacy design, I
also get an error chime when I shut it down, but no error box.

Go figure.....

Fred,
Not sure about the details you report with the error chime,
typically I don't have my sound turned on most of the time. However there is
one infamous problem with 99SE that I thought could be related to your
issue.
99SE does not always shut-down properly, have you noticed this? I
notice it because often at the end of the day when I shutdown my computer, I
get the error message telling me that Client99SE is still running and it
asks if I want to shut it down. The application was closed but CLient99se
was still running and I could confirm it by looking at the active processes
manually. Could this be related to your problem as well?

Subject: [PEDA] Protel Error chime

Hello all,

This is probably an issue that was answered on the list years ago, but I can
only view the archives a few months back.

Upon exiting Protel 99se SP6, I hear an error chime. No error is presented.

This "problem" has existed for me through Windows 98, 2000, and XP. It has
existed on more hardware than I can count. It exists on plain vanilla 99se,
and SP6.

Upon reinstalling the OS and 99se, the "problem" is fixed for a time. Then
for some reason, one day exiting Protel will produce an error chime on exit.
>From this point on, Protel will produce the error chime at each exit.
Uninstalling (the best uninstall I can do with directories/files actively
searched out and deleted and registry entries removed) and reinstalling does
NOT clean this up. My only luck has been a complete OS reinstall and then a
Protel 99se install.

For example, on this last install, I open and closed Protel just fine to
test the install. The following day a simple filter was simulated. Upon
closing, saving and exiting the program, the chime occurred. Now, even with
that database file completely deleted and saving a new blank schematic, the
error chime persists. I attempted the standard Protel uninstall reinstall
with no success.

I do not detect any memory leaks caused by this and as it occurs only when
exiting I would classify this simply as an annoyance. Has anyone else
noticed this behavior? Any ideas as to the cause?

Thanks in advance,

Fred Wilson
