Tino,
The ROHS deadline is 1st July 2006. There are no extensions available.
However, there are currently some exemption applications in the pipeline for
End of Life and obsolete components, but these will take some time to be
implemented (if at all).
You have several options:
- Get the Cypress chips re-tinned;
- Get as many items as you can into European warehouses before 1st July;
- There are exemptions for a few product families, eg. network
infrastructures and servers. Check whether your product falls into one of
these.
Other countries (eg. China) are implementing their own version of ROHS. You
need to keep abreast of these regulations too. The IPC Leadfree Forum is
very useful in this regard. Go to

Regards,
Geoff Haines

Subject: [PEDA] RoHS, are there extensions for one part?

I wanted to confirm something about RoHS.
My design is RoHS compliant except for one Cypress chip that I have. The
chip is several years old and I cannot find a lead free version.

The RoHS deadline is 06/01/2006 and I want to confirm that there are no
extensions that I can get (if it is not a military product).
Is there some paperwork for extensions that I can fill out so that I can
sell this product Europe?

- Tino
