The story of Altium Designer (and its preceding versions): the ongoing
provision of new features which have not been thought through thoroughly,
and which thus leave so much to be desired in their actual implementation.

I don't know if it's still the case, but when Embedded Board Array objects
were first provided, and a PCB file was saved in ASCII format, *none* of the
details of any such objects were specified within the resulting PCB file.
(I'm *not* suggesting that all of the details within the PCB file referred
to by each such object should be saved within the ASCII format PCB file -
*but* the values of the properties of each such object, as listed in the
Inspector Panel, or List Panel, or properties dialog, *should* be saved
within that PCB file.)

And there are various other aspects about those objects which were (and
probably still are) similarly underwhelming in nature. As such, I'm not
suggesting that they should never be deployed, but anyone who ever does
deploy them should keep in mind that it is not that far-fetched to think of
those objects as being "half-baked" in nature, and to subsequently never
make any assumptions (of a reasonable nature or otherwise) about any aspects
of their functionality.

Geoff Harland.
