Hallo Robi, ltns. You are right, impedance calculators tend to differ depending on which tool you use. The new Altium Designer 6 software includes an impedance calculator. But the results it calculates differ also from other impedance calculation tools.
I use a tool called ZCALC for differential impedance calculations. For the manufactorability (does that word exist?) I use a tool from ISOLA, the Germany's biggest manufactorer of PCB materials. You can create your own multilayer stackup there. We have put test traces for impedance measurement on some PCBs, and the measurements come near to the results of the ZCALC tool. The tool can be downloaded as freeware from http://www.jnicolle.com/?page=LVDS. The ISOLA tool is called Multical3 and is downloadable from their website for free also. My Question: Where would I find a, "proven to be right" calculator. By, proven to be right - has anyone used a calculator where the assembled board did actually measure the correct impedance. My doubts: I've run several calc. with different, freely available tools but got up to a 45% difference in calc. impedance. Any help would be appreciated. If you may have a proven calculation tool, maybe I can send you the data and you do me a favour in running the calc for me. Please don't send any links to websites, unless you've used it and it's been proven to show the right impedance - I've been on Google and Yahoo - that's why I can say - calc. differ quite badly.
