Thanks for the tip, but I was really attempting to establish whether the
"Export" command which I referred to before is defective on *just* my PC, or
whether it is otherwise a genuine defect within Protel 99 SE (and thus a defect
affecting *every* PC on which Protel 99 SE is installed).

I actually use a copy of the (totally freeware) "PdfCreator" application (either

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

or

http://www.pdfforge.org/

for further details) to create Acrobat files, and while there is a defect in
the current version (0.9.3) involving the file creation date/time, it still
creates otherwise satisfactory Acrobat files from any application from which
printouts can be created.

If you want to create negative images, you should be able to install a printer
driver for a postscript printer, then configure that driver so that it "prints"
to a postscript file rather than to an actual printer. Such printer drivers
typically provide both a mirrored image option and a negative image option (and
if you so wanted, you could select *both* of those options). After thus
creating a postscript file, you can then either convert it into an Acrobat file
using the PdfCreator creator which I referred to before, or otherwise use an
application such as Ghostscript to print it to any "real" printer.

A tip for anyone still using Protel 99 SE is that when any pads on the
MultiLayer layer are depicted within printouts created from the PcbPrint
server, it is *always* the property values for the "Middle" layer of those pads
which are actually depicted. That is not a problem for any such pads of a
"Simple" nature (in which the property values on each of the Top, Middle, and
Bottom layers are all identical), but it still is an issue whenever a PCB file
contains any non-Simple pads and you want to create printouts depicting the
details on the top and/or bottom (copper/signal) layers (for instance).

There are various ways to create "good" printouts, but at the very least I
consider that it is still preferable for people to be at least aware of this
particular defect of Protel 99 SE.

Regards,
Geoff Harland.
