Dear colleagues,

A number of studies have already been carried out, highlighting the
classificatory aspect of C.S. Peirce's relationship with the sciences in
general, and his conception of semiotics as "another name for logic" in
particular. In this study, which I offer for your consideration, I have
emphasized the epistemological aspect of this "architectonic"
classification. To this end, I have placed in the foreground the luminous
metaphors combined in a "ladder in the Well of Truth", which, it seems to
me, has gone unnoticed until now. This does not detract from the existing
literature, but distributes it between research activities that can be
situated inside the "Well of Truth", on the one hand, and those outside it,
on the other, according to their relationship with mathematical rigor. All
my remarks are carefully referenced to Peirce's writings, my part
consisting in recognizing a "Pascalian gap" of an anthropological nature
between Mathematics and Philosophy.
