Dear list, My name is Samuel Barry, and I am a Ph. D. student in the Classics department at the University of Manchester. At the moment I am focused upon the role played by Aramaic (Syriac) lexicography in the development of the Arabic medical tradition. However, in my MA work at the University of Georgia, I attempted to link the sound-symbolism of the great linguist Uthman ibn Jinni (d. 1002) to contemporary ideas of linguistic relativity, and in doing so I had some recourse to Peirce through a Jakobsonian/cognitive linguistics lens.
Although I realize this list has a somewhat different focus, I would like to ask your opinion on the best/most up-to-date secondary literature discussing Peirce's relationship with the scholastics. Beyond this general question, if there are sources that mention any opinions of his on the Arabic philosophers who preceded the scholastics I would be grateful to learn about them. Many thanks, S. C.
