I'm sure of you know by now that John Deely has suffered a series of strokes and is currently in the hospital recovering. The Benedictines at Saint Vincent College have relieved John from all his teaching duties until the Spring 2017 semester in order to allow for proper time for recovery. The latest news is that he will most probably be released later this week to a skilled rehabilitation center. John has suffered both physical and cognitive impairment, but both seem to be responding to treatment. The recovery process will be long and slow, however. For the foreseeable future, both he and Brooke will be investing most of their energies to the maintenance of his care and recovery. Therefore, Brooke has requested that I act as a mediator between them and the legions of his friends and supporters who want only the best for him. I told her that I would be happy to be her press secretary. I live less than 60 miles from their home in Latrobe, so I can be there in a little over an hour if need be. I also talk to Brooke several times a day to make sure I have the latest news. So for now, Brooke requests that, rather than call her or John directly, contact me instead. I will have the latest news, and if the matter is important or I have been told that either she or John are up to taking a call, I will let her know immediately. This is not a very good time to talk to John directly. At Brook's request, I have not done so myself. So I am not asking you to do something that I myself am not doing as well. Brooke has gotten very little rest for over a month, and it is taking a toll on her. So that is one of the reasons we have decided to allow me to step in for now and handle the flow of information.
