SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT:
THE WAY OF INQUIRY: A MINICONFERENCE ON PHILOSOPHICAL METHODOLOGY: 3
DECEMBER 2016

Charles Peirce famously recommended that the words “Do not block the way of
inquiry” be inscribed “upon every wall of the city of philosophy”. But what
does this instruction mean in practice? The past decade has seen a
groundswell of attention to discussions of philosophical method or
metaphilosophy, in mainstream analytic philosophy. This miniconference
seeks to broaden these discussions to include conversations with other
traditions, particularly American pragmatism. What might philosophical
traditions currently active in the English-speaking world learn from each
other, and what new philosophical pathways might lie on the other side of
such engagements?

This miniconference will take place at the University of Waikato directly
after the New Zealand Association of Philosophy Conference (28 November - 2

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:

Shannon Dea, University of Waterloo, Canada:
"Deep Pluralism: Pedagogy, Diversity and Methodology"

Paul Redding, University of Sydney, Australia:
"Hegel, Modal Logic and the Nature of Mental Contents"

REGISTRATION FEE: NZ$60 waged, $25 unwaged (method of payment TBA)

ACCOMMODATION: If you are attending the NZAP conference and staying in the
University Halls of Residence and would like to stay one more night,
arrangements are currently being made to accommodate this. Other
accommodation options will be suggested for self-arrangement.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO OFFER A PRESENTATION:

Please submit an abstract of approx 200 words through the NZAP conference
portal, indicating that it is for the miniconference.

Abstracts will be refereed, and depending on number received, and topics,
may be organized into panel sessions. Presentation slots are currently
being planned for 30 minutes.

DEADLINE: October 15th, 2016.

If you require a decision concerning acceptance of your abstract before end
of October in order to secure funding from your institution, please email
about this.

Childcare options will be available if needed. Please email the organizer
about this, and any other special needs.
