John, List, Thank you for suggesting how I might improve my moderating skills by giving me an example of a possible 'good response' to JA.
JFS: A good *on-lis*t reply to Jon A would be "Peirce's EGs appear to be superior and more iconic than your notation. Could you show some examples that map your notation to and from EGs in a way that show the advantages and disadvantages of the two notations?" I have always thought a 'good response' to anything written here or elsewhere ought to be one which addressed the substantive matter being discussed, while my mentioning that I had studied JA's cactus diagrams decades ago was just in passing and was not in any way integral to the substance of my message. Yet even after a decade of moderating Peirce-L I remain open to suggestions on how I might improve my moderating. I'd prefer that they be sent to me off List, however, so that I might avoid having to post a note such as this on the List.
