JNG and ITF successfully conclude negotiations
(Oct 8 2010)
Representatives of the Joint Negotiating Group of the International Bargaining
Forum (IBF) and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) have
agreed on set of recommendations aimed to assist seafarers and
shipowners/managers in the event of piracy.
In particular, these included recommendations for seafarers' protection and
welfare if captured and also that of their families until, and if necessary,
after their release.
With regards to the ongoing pay negotiations, following intense discussions and
consultations between the respective IBF parties, an agreement was reached this
week enhancing the previous methodology used in negotiating and implementing
IBF pay settlements.
It is believed that this should facilitate the pay negotiations, which are
scheduled to continue early next year with completion expected in March 2011.
In line with the above, all existing IBF agreements will be extended to
continue until the end of March 2011, the JNG said.
