BIMCO releases first version of its EEDI calculator

BIMCO's EEDI calculator is now ready for download from its web site.
Development and verification testing has been completed for the first version
of the calculator.
BIMCO has developed the easy-to-use EEDI calculator to help its members
calculate the EEDI and plot a ship's index against the relevant ship type
specific regulatory limits imposed by MARPOL Annex VI (see Tanker Operator News
7th October).
The calculator is an implementation of the guideline outlined in IMO Circular
MEPC.1/Circ.681. This guideline is still being reviewed by MEPC and BIMCO will
issue updated versions of the EEDI calculator as amendments are published in
the future.
The organisation said that it hoped that the calculator will make EEDI
performance of known ship designs more visible, as well as providing an easy
way to assess changes in EEDI when design parameters are changed.
