No, I think it is a more fundamental and structural problem, namely the 
quiescence of the American working class that is a combination of 
long-standing accommodation to the system culturally/psychologically and 
the fear of struggle in a period when the boss can move production 
overseas. There has not been a major strike since the UPS in 1997. 
People seek individual solutions like training to be a programmer or 
moving to cities where the job market is more favorable. As I was 
discussing with a young leftist yesterday, Michael Moore's "Roger and 
Me" is essential viewing for understanding these issues. When Flint gets 
clobbered by deindustrialization, unemployed workers raise rabbits for 
food or pets. They move to Texas. They do just about everything except 
what they did in 1938.
