my prediction is that with Jefferts shifting, gridlock is on the rise. What
with the GOPsters running the White House and the House, this is a good
thing. The Dems aren't very good either -- look at their big focus on
fiscal conservatism, for example -- so it's good to have them gridlocked, too.
In any event, don't expect anything good from that pack of thieves unless
there's serious pressure from outside-the-Beltway political forces, i.e.,
grassroots discontent. Look how effective Ross Perot (and more importantly,
the Perotistas) were in shaping the political agenda. Maybe somehow we can
"pull a Perot" from the left. Then suddenly the Demoncrats would start
acting as if they had backbones.
BTW, Jefferts pledged to stay with the GOP until the Bushwacker's
tax-relief-for-the-rich program got through. So the GOP could keep their
Senate majority by delaying its passage... ;-)
