REGISTRATION INFORMATION: The Thursday evening session is free and open
to the general public. The conference fee is
$50 for fully employed attendants; one-day tickets are $25.
Unfortunately, we must charge GST ($3.50 and 1.75, respectively).
The fee for students, retirees and low-income people is nil.
To register, please fax or (e)mail the attached form to
the conference secretariat (see letterhead).
Make your cheque out to the University of Manitoba (you may pay
upon arrival at the conference if you prefer, except for the
Saturday night performance).
FOOD: Because of lunch scheduling, campus food services needs to
know the number of participants by Monday 7 November; hence, whether
you are in the fee-paying category or not, do register in advance.
ACCOMMODATION: We have reserved rooms at the Hotel Fort Garry,
1-800-665-8088, code "PC 1003"; reservation expiry date: 27/10.
Price: $54/night. In case of trouble, ask for Sherraine.
The Fort Garry is located at 222 Broadway Avenue in downtown
Winnipeg, within two minutes walking from the Union Centre and the
Via Rail station. The airport is a 25-minute taxi ride away.
We may run a shuttle between the Fort Garry and the university,
depending on the number of delegates actually staying at the hotel.
AFTER-HOURS & SOCIAL EVENTS: Because Manitoba closes down for Remembrance
Day, there is no entertainment, drinking or shopping on Friday.
We will organise a private function for that evening, depending on
the number of people interested; please, check off this item
on the registration form.
The two main options for Saturday evening are the Manitoba
Opera's performance of "Carmen" ($20-30) and a concert with Peter
Ostroushko & Dean Magraw ($16). If you are interested in either,
please mention that when (e)mailing/faxing your conference registration;
to reserve a seat, we need your payment by 31 October: either a
cheque payable to the Society for Socialist Studies or your
VISA or Mastercharge number (and expiry date) on the registration form.
THE CONFERENCE is organised by the Labour Studies Programme, Faculty
of Arts, University of Manitoba. Financial support has been received
from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada,
the Manitoba Federation of Labour and, at the University of Manitoba,
the Faculty of
Arts, Faculty of Management, Department of Economics, University
College, Faculty Association, and Alumni Association. Organisational
and administrative services are provided by the Society for Socialist
Studies.
ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL support will be appreciated. Tax-creditable
donations may be made by cheque payable to the University of Manitoba
and sent to the conference secretariat.
