The Graduate School of Political and Social Sciences from
Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico is organizing an
International Symposium on "Economic and Financial Cycles and
NAFTA: Macro and Micro Issues and Analysis."
Its purpose is to examine the nature, origin, trends,
mechanisms of transmission, and impacts of economic and financial
cycles in Mexico, Canada and United States. In addition, the
Symposium aims to determine the relationship between economic and
financial cycles in the NAFTA countries with world economic and
financial cycles, as well as with cycles in other countries and
regions outside the NAFTA bloc. It also aims to determine the
relationship between financial liberalization, deregulation and
business cycles. The impact of cycles on economic development,
economic and financial integration, capital markets, and
corporate activity, corporate capital structure, corporate cost
of capital, and corporate governance will be stressed.
Other related topics include developed and emerging capital
markets asset volatility and returns, financial innovation in the
emerging capital markets, exchange rate policy and capital market
returns, speculative trading in the emerging capital markets,
inflation and hyperinflation and emerging capital markets,
market frictions in the emerging capital markets, microstructure
of emerging capital markets, futures, options and other
derivatives in the emerging capital markets, central bank
policies and economic stabilization in the developing countries,
foreign direct investments, technology and cycles and financial
cycles in the developing countries, etc.
All papers dealing with theoretical, historical, empirical
analysis, or policy decisions on economic and financial cycles,
on all issues or topics outlined above are welcome.
Papers presented at this symposium will be considered for a
book contracted with an international publishing company.
