Excuse me. Why did Mark Nadler's posting of a couple of days ago inspire
a little spate of messages concerning libertarians and the internet?? His
remarks -- re. "unfettered" markets, etc. -- seemed to be fairly heavily
laced with irony and I have not known many libertarians who would
emphatically agree that the failure of the (first) "socialist experiment"
is not sufficient grounds for not trying it again. Nor does criticism
of "left-leaning liberals" (a life-form of which I am not myself especially
fond) seem to me to qualify one for being labelled either a "libertarian"
or an "internet pest". Trond Andresen's presumptive identification of Mark
Nadler as both of the latter (I believe Trond said he knew the "tone" well)
was picked up by subsequent posters without hesitation. And yet, it might be
recalled that when the genuine article turned up on pen-l some months ago,
spouting Alvin Toffler and inundating our mailboxes, Trond's initial reaction
was to give encouragement.

Anyway, I would not be so quick to judge -- neither assumed friend nor assumed
foe.
