I have not seen the article in the June, 1994 Journal Of Economic
Literature on unemployment referred to by Alan Isaac. Does this article
discuss whether unemployment rates are calculated similarly in the U.S.,
the EC and the non EC countires? In other words, would the U.S.
unemployment rates be substantially lower than Sweden, Denmark, etc. if
definitions of unemployment were the same in all countries? Is the less
high, although still obscenely high unemployment rate of the U.S.,
compared to most of the European countries real? what part of the
differences are the results of different ways of calculating
unemployment? References? Thanks!
