THE CANADIAN CENTRE FOR POLICY ALTERNATIVES has opened a VANCOUVER OFFICE @ 815 -207 West Hastings, Vancouver, B.C., V6B 1H7 The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives is pleased to announce the establishment of a new Vancouver office. Many in B.C. have eagerly awaited the establishment of a progressive think tank able to challenge the dominance of neo-conservative ideas in B.C.'s mainstream media. The CCPA Vancouver Office will develop a team of B.C. research associates concerned with issues of social and economic justice. The office will undertake research of specific interest to British Columbians, promote the work of progressive B.C. researchers, serve as a resource for local unions and community groups, contribute to the CCPA's national research projects, counter the public statements and reports of corporate- backed research organizations such as the Fraser Institute, and act as an alternative source of policy ideas for the media and general public. The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives is an independent, non-profit research institute funded primarily through organizational and individual memberships. Founded in 1980, it is one of the few national institutions addressing Canadian public policy issues from a progressive point of view. The Centre undertakes and promotes economic and social research. The CCPA produces research reports, books and other publications, including the Monitor, a monthly research magazine. It also organizes public lectures and conferences. The Centre produces (with CHO!CES) the annual Alternative Federal Budget, and has published work such as Monica Townson's Our Aging Society, and Duncan Cameron and Ed Finn's Ten Deficit Myths. Some key topics addressed by the CCPA include: tax reform, job creation, social policy, poverty, monetary policy, the right to strike, fair wage policy, free trade and globalization, privatization, education, medicare, pensions, and unemployment insurance. HELP SUPPORT THE NEW VANCOUVER OFFICE BY JOINING THE CCPA TODAY. ALL NEW MEMBERSHIP MONEY RECEIVED FROM BRITISH COLUMBIA WILL GO TO THE CCPA VANCOUVER OFFICE.
