Michael is quite right. He has urged me not to characterize Doug's thoughts
and I found myself slipping back into that mode again yesterday. After
writing something and hitting the enter key, I slapped my forehead and
said, "Goddamnit, that was a characterization, what got into me?". In a
way, this whole discussion has run out of steam anyhow, so I doubt that
there is much risk in crossing boundaries of permissible behavior. What I
should do is concentrate on an article for a print publication on the
aftermath of the Sokal affair, which this really is about. For the time
being, I promise to stop being a gadfly.
