Michael is quite right. He has urged me not to characterize Doug's thoughts and I found myself slipping back into that mode again yesterday. After writing something and hitting the enter key, I slapped my forehead and said, "Goddamnit, that was a characterization, what got into me?". In a way, this whole discussion has run out of steam anyhow, so I doubt that there is much risk in crossing boundaries of permissible behavior. What I should do is concentrate on an article for a print publication on the aftermath of the Sokal affair, which this really is about. For the time being, I promise to stop being a gadfly.
