What does it say about the Zeitgeist when we see over and over on national TV in primetime, the Monster.Com add showing young children saying "I want a brown nose", "I want to be under appreciated", "I want to be forced into early retirement", "I want to be a yes man or yes woman" etc. Does this represent merely yuppy angst or does it represent new forms of anti-business/capitalism filtering into mass culture? The add goes on to suggest that at Monster.Com one can presumably find jobs and positions that do not require brownnosing or bringing the old kneepads and chapstick to work every day. Maybe one day we will get ads that go beyond some of the symptoms of a fundamentally diseased system to analysis of the core imperatives, institutions, interests, "logic" and consequences of capitalism itself. Imagine an add with the same young children saying: "Why is capitalism more like Mr. Hyde than Dr. Jekyll?" Why, under capitalism, is style more often obscenely rewarded over substance rather than substance being rewarded over style?", "Who really rules, how and whose interest?" or Perhaps something like "I want to be an imperial power projector", "I want to be a social systems/false consciousness engineer.", "I want to dress for SUCKcess", "I want to engineer/support anti-communist/labor/environment fascist regimes in the service of monopoly capital", "I want to break treaties and destroy whole cultures", "I want to be an Ethnic Cleanser in the service of imperialism." Happy Memorial Day to all; please drive safely. Jim Craven U.S. Army 1963-66 http://www.home.earthlink.net/~blkfoot5/
