If I understand Alan's paper correctly (without reading it, of course),
he has performed some sort of regression to attribute wages to
education, experience, and other factors, all of which he regards as
human capital.  "Pure" labor is a residual, I would imagine.  Not too
much should be read into the final result.  I agree, though, that coming
up with a clear definition of who "the workers" are and a way to
separate out their compensation is very important.
