A UNION AGAINST THE PERSECUTION IN ECONOMICS UBA.
Last July, at the Faculty of Economics of the UNIVERSITY OF BUENOS
AIRES,
the decision was taken that the History of Economic Thought course,
regularly delivered by Professor Pablo Levin, was not going to be
offered
the following term. The person directly responsible for such a
determination was Manuel Fernandez Lopez, current Director of the
Department of
Economics and the reason put forward by him was that Dr. Levin was
teaching marxism instead of the formally established contents of that
course.
The Faculty of Economics is nowadays becoming a center of obscurantism
and the authorities sistematically hinder any attempt to develop marxism
or
any kind of critical thought.
The authorities action against Dr. Levin was strongly refused
by the students who organized a demonstration at the Deans Office. On
the
other hand, a group of teachers from this institution joined to resist
this
kind of persecution and decided to organize in a union named ASOCIACION
GREMIAL DOCENTE (AGD) in order to defend our rights.
Our purpose is to represent the whole teaching staff of the Faculty of
Economics and to struggle for higher wages, job stability and academic
and
democratic rights.
We call to a MEETING on August 17th in order to express
our complete refusal of the authorities action against Dr. Levin. It
will
be held at the AUDITORIUM of the Faculty of Economics at 7 PM.
