Frantz Fanon, Richard Wright, Nella Larsen, James Weldon Johnson, etc.
White hipsters were often sympathetic to blacks, but sympathy did not
go very far, and the "negro streets" for them mainly functioned as
metaphors of their own brand of alienation.
