Today's San Diego newspaper article on electric prices in California concludes with the following sentence:

Prices in excess of $4,000 per megawatt hour are being reported for electricity sales
tomorrow. This for a commodity that sold for perhaps $50 just prior to the summer.

Meanwhile, Kaiser Aluminum up in the Northwest has shut down again, is selling its electric entitlement on the market for a big profit -- though of course employees  or ejx-employees I should say -- won't get a cut.  And Kaiser may shut down permanently in the Northwest according to news reports.
