Viciousness and violence have long been a constant in human history. The
Nazis were unique in openly calling for the eradication of an entire
people, although I understand (I may be wrong this) that they were
inspired by policies used here in United States against the Native
Americans.
Martin Brown's mention of John Graham is very important. Following in the
footsteps of W. Kip Viscusi, he places a low value on human life
and then proceed to argue against lifesaving measures. At least, it is more than the
$5.08,
which was the basis of the Ford Pinto calculation. Max is correct that
there probably is an optimal number of airplane accidents, but his
calculations should be may in the open and not be overly influenced by
industry representatives.
