I think I said this before, but I'll say it again because it's so good. The day Pinochet was arrested, a friend who's an economics grad student at Chicago saw a professor busily scribbling mathematical notation in the library. Asked what he was doing, the prof said he was trying to model the effects of arrest risk on policy choices. If Pinochet had known he would be arrested, he might not have made the right policy decisions, and that had to be modeled and quantified. Doug
