In the L.A. TIMES this a.m., one of the two editorial cartoonists, Michael Ramirez, had a 'toon likening the longshore union to the mafia, holding Uncle Sam hostage. He's an able artist (maybe even better than Paul Conrad, the L.A.T.'s liberal cartoonist). But he seems like the Clarence Thomas of editorial cartoons: he got in partly on "affirmative action" grounds, but he's also a sop to the ultra right (and not too bright).
