N.Y. ex-commissioner named to head L.A. police.

Los Angeles. Former New York police commissioner William Bratton, who was formally named yesterday as Mayor Jim Hahn's choice for Los Angeles police chief, pledged to return a demoralized LAPD to its "shining" glory, which has been badly tarnished by more than a decade of scandal. Mr Bratton, 54, defended his reputation in New York of zero tolerance of minor street crimes. Reuters.
