I didn't see anything I, a U-M polisci trained number cruncher, would recognize as a statistical argument, e.g., a rigorously operationalized definition of lefthood, a sample constructed in a properly random way, and properlay administered surveys controlled for error.
This is the end of my contribution to what Ian correctly called an interminable thread. I'm gonna says this once last time, Jim. I am not ARGUING that the left should be patriotic. I have repeatedly expressly said that this is not the sort of thing that one can argue for. I also do not think that patriotism (of the nonchauvinistic sort) necessarily sets up antagonistic divides; one might learn from EP Thompson, an unrepentant Little Englander, withering about the British state and an internationalist in practice and theory, that I can think that "we" are OK without thinking that "you" are bad. At least not in more than a "boy, you guys are strange: sort of way.
But think differently, you will anyway. That's one more thing that's great about America.
