Michael Pollak:
But all that's a footnote in history now. When the primary comes to New
York, I'll vote for Kerry for the same reason that everyone has -- and for
the same reason I supported Dean in the first place. I want the junta of
madmen gone. Then we can start to think about other things.

On the two major "madness" issues, Kerry voted in favor of the war and the Patriot Act. There is, by some accounts, 30 to 40 years left of oil reserves. This is the driving logic of war and imperialism, not George W. Bush's born-again idiocy. Some day we will have access to the top-secret documents of the White House. I am sure that war in Iraq will have been projected long ago, just as Paul O'Neill alleged in the new book. My guess, however, is that this policy was in embryonic form when the "sane" Clinton was in the White House, imposing sanctions which cost far more lives than anything that Bush has done. I guess because Clinton was backed by the Nation Magazine, it was not so clear at the time that he was a madman as well.
