It probably would have taken a civil war (i.e. "chaos") for Iraqis to overthrow Saddam. Would those who now oppose U.S. withdrawal from Iraq because it will lead to civil war have opposed a revolt against the Baathists ?
Who opposes U.S. withdrawal from Iraq? The position of the Communist Workers Party - and apparently that of many Iraqis - is for a UN force without the U.S. to replace the U.S.
And if Iraqis had overthrown Saddam, that would have their undertaking, not that of a foreign power, which destroyed the state and most other institutions of Iraqi society.
