The "US" is not a profit center, and hence no profits go to "the US" as such, any more than the riches of India went to "England" as such. The same applies to "the US" today. I believe that it is worth some clumsiness of language or added verbosity to avoid bunching Walmart employees, the mentally ill living on on disability, and the actual recipients of those "profits" all under the same label, "The US."
