I hope that the new pen-l system is working for everybody. I have had a few
glitches
already, but not many. I may not be able to do much to help in the near future.

We are in the midst of our second big winter storm. The wind gusts were
supposed to be
75 miles an hour, but they cut the estimate down to 45. The trees are very
vulnerable
because the ground is so wet. A huge tree fell right next to where I park my
bicycle
on campus. Pacific Gas & Electric has warned in advance about the likelihood
of power
failures. So there is a chance that I may not have access to the Web for a
while later
today.

On Wednesday, I leave for New Haven. I was invited to write a paper for a
seminar at
Yale. The participants have already read the paper. I will go, listen to
their
critique, and then get a few minutes to reply. That arrangement sounds more
interesting than just standing up and talking. I am not sure how much time
online and
I will have during the visit, but at least I will find out about what made Doug
Henwood
and Jim Devine turn out the way they did.

I will return late Monday than get up to teach my classes on Tuesday. By
Wednesday, I
hope to be more fully engaged in the list.
