I don't know the law, but I think that it is possible to get US citizenship (or maybe just a "Green" card) via military service. If you're in the country illegally that likely does not apply. One problem is that if we allowed undocumented workers to gain citizenship by serving in the military, it would draw labor away from agriculture, restaurants, meat-packing plants, and other sectors that rely on "illegals." Even among conservatives, there's always a conflict in the "immigration debates" between the need to supply cheap labor to business (and domestically-produced cheap commodities to US citizens) on the one hand and nationalism/chauvinism on the other. -- Jim Devine / "Segui il tuo corso, e lascia dir le genti."
