You want to own guns because you don't trust your community to take care of you or even not to harm you. I don't think there is a class aspect to this so much as ideology. So even working class men (do women own a lots of guns?) who buy into the individualist ideology may favor gun ownership. Of course individualist ideology is extremely convenient to capitalists.. -raghu.
