Feminism has transformed almost everything, from the top of society to day-to-day life, too. (Except maybe PEN-L.) And that too was driven by a small band of activists and intellectuals who endured a lot of shit thrown at them from the broader society. So that's two really big instances to refute your passive theory of social change.
