I've read some of Ken Bruen. Excellent. But I guess I haven't read
the recent ones.

has anyone who's familiar with contemporary Ireland read Ken Bruen's
Jack Taylor series of crime novels? Taylor is highly critical of the
"new Ireland" with its condoization of Galway, etc., while being very
sympathetic to the new ethnic groups moving into Ireland from the rest
of Europe. Of course, he's a total drunk, worse even than Lawrence
Block's Matt Scudder. (Guinness is not good for him.) Even if it's
not an accurate portrayal of Ireland, the series is excellent...
